(Coming to PBS beginning April 19, 2011) In BLACK IN LATIN America, Professor Gates’ journey discovers, powering a shared legacy of colonialism and slavery, vivid tales and individuals marked by African roots. He introduces viewers to the faces and voices of the descendants of the Africans in 6 Latin-American countries, who made these worlds. He exhibits the similarities and distinctions between these cultures and how the New-Globe manifestations are rooted in, but unique from, their African antecedents. A quest he started twelve several years ago with Miracles OF THE AFRICAN Globe will come complete circle in BLACK IN LATIN America, an work to find out how Africa and Europe blended to generate the lively cultures of Latin America, with a wealthy legacy of thoughtful, articulate topics whose tales are astonishingly shifting and irresistibly persuasive.
